In tonight’s top story: A fire north of Flin Flon, in northern Manitoba, exploded in size overnight. Towering flames forced 700 people in the community of Cranberry Portage to flee Saturday night. The fire activity there is extreme and strong winds mean it could spread quickly. It’s one of a number of wildfires threatening communities across Manitoba, Albert and B.C. Julia Foy reports. Russian President Vladimir Putin has replaced his defence minister, Sergei Shoigu, on the same day as a deadly explosion at an apartment block near the Ukrainian border. Russian media say at least nine people have been killed after an intercepted Ukrainian missile hit the building in Belgorod. It happened not far from where Russia claims to have seized villages inside Ukraine’s border. Redmond Shannon explains. There is growing anxiety in Gaza over Israel’s expected assault on Rafah. Despite Israeli orders to evacuate, there’s almost nowhere safe for people in the besieged city to go. At the same time, there is a dangerous shortage of humanitarian aid. A proposed settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit against the Canadian Armed Forces.
