MPs denounce Pro-Palestinian group chanting "death to Canada," burning flag at Vancouver rally
Conservative MPs during question period in the House of Commons on Tuesday demanded that the Pro-Palestinian group Samidoun be listed as a terrorist organization after its members burned the Canadian flag and chanted hateful rhetoric at a rally in Vancouver. “Will the prime minister protect Jewish Canadians from homegrown extremism and list Samidoun as a terrorist organization,” demanded Marty Morantz, Conservative MP for Charleswood-St. James- Assiniboia-Headingly, Manitoba. Members chanted "death to Canada, the U.S. and Israel" while some lit fire to the Canadian flag. “If there’s one thing today we will be able to agree (on), it’s that we both condemn what happened yesterday on the streets of Vancouver. And that’s why we will always condemn any form of antisemitism and I’m convinced that anyone in this House will condemn any form of antisemitism,” said Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly. Jennifer O’Connell, parliamentary secretary to the public affairs minister, added that the government has sent a request for an urgent review of Samidoun.
