LIVE | Canada: Officials Admit to Leaking "Information" Against India | Vantage with Palki Sharma India and Canada’s relations continue to deteriorate as tensions escalate. On Tuesday, the Canadian government accused India's Minister of Home Affairs, Amit Shah, of involvement in plots to target Khalistani separatists in Canada. Canadian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister David Morrison said he gave this information to a US-based newspaper, The Washington Post. "The journalist called me and asked if it (Shah) was that person. I confirmed it was that person," he told a parliamentary panel. Morrison and Canada's National Security Adviser Nathalie Drouin appeared before the parliamentary panel regarding a recent diplomatic dispute that led India to recall High Commissioner Sanjay Verma and five other diplomats, all named "persons of interest" in an investigation into the 2023 killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Drouin admitted that she leaked information on India's alleged link to Nijjar's killing to the American newspaper. While the Indian government is yet to respond to Morrison's claims, it previously strongly dismissed Canada’s allegations as baseless, denying any involvement. Last week, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that India had initially raised concerns about organised crime within Canada, which he said went unaddressed.
